 Guppy LoRaWAN Geo-Location Tag

COMPACT LOW-COST BATTERY-POWERED ASSET LOCATION USING LoRaWAN

The Guppy is a compact, rugged "tag" device that has been designed for locating containers, trailers, skip bins, and other assets using the LoRaWAN geo-location servces. The Guppy can also alert on movement and after-hours activity.

The IP-67 rated housing is rugged and UV stable, so the device can be mounted on assets that are exposed to rain, dust and marine conditions.

The Guppy uses LoRaWan technology to give you coverage of your assets at a low data cost. It is available in 868MHz and 915MHz versions to cater for the various LoRaWAN regions around the world.

Locate assets for extended periods

Locate up to 5 years using standard size AAA-cell batteries

Non-powered assets

Ideal for equipment, containers, skips, trailers, pumps, generators and other non-powered assets that are exposed to the elements.

Lowest cost connectivity

LoRaWAN connectivity offers lowest cost connections on an expanding global network.

Hardware Features

Low-profile IP67 rugged housing

The IP67 rated housing is made of sturdy ABS/Polycarbonate plastic to survive bumps and knocks and to survive many years in the sun and weather.

It is low-profile making it easy to mount and conceal if required. For example, on the underside of a trailer.

The housing screws together for easy assembly, and has 2 convenient mounting tabs.

Batteries

AAA size

Standard “AAA” size batteries which provide a balance between size and capacity

Alkaline

Low cost off-the-shelf alkaline batteries can be used

Off-the-shelf Lithium

For applications that require extreme temperature or extra long-life we recommend that off-the-shelf 1.5V lithium batteries are used. These are readily available from retail outlets, for example Duracell and Energizer

Operating Temperature

-20°C to +60°C 1

For operation in extreme temperatures, the device must be fitted with lithium batteries.

LoRaWan Communications

The Guppy uses a high power radio transmitter / receiver that operates on LoRaWan networks, and is available in variants for the various LoRaWan frequencies around the world.

Internal Antenna

Internal LoRaWan RF antenna tuned by the RF laboratories to ensure optimal performance

3 axis accelerometer

The 3-axis accelerometer allows the Guppy to ‘sleep’ in an ultra-low power state yet still wakeup when movement occurs.

Future firmware versions will allow for harsh G-force detection (like objects being dropped)

Configuration Cable

The Guppy caters for a USB configuration adapter and cable, which is used to program firmware updates and configuration information on the device. The most common configuration parameters are also able to be updated OTA via LoRaWan downlink messages.

The Guppy uses a USB configuration cable for firmware updates.

Firmware Smarts

OTA Configuration

The Guppy can be remotely configured and some of the key operational parameters updated via the LoRaWan downlink messages (your data plan needs to support downlink messages).

Software & Data Management

Data from the Guppy is sent to LoRaWan gateways, which in turn will report the data via their cloud infrastructure to the back-end server platform for processing and reporting. The network server is not provided by Digital Matter.

There are several LoRaWan network service providers for customers to choose from. Each of them have their own management interface and formats for providing data to a software platform.

Please contact Digital Matter if you require information on the integration of the LoRaWan data payloads.

User Interface:

This can be Digital Matter’s Telematics.Guru platform which has built-in support for our devices and protocols, or to your own server platform. Please contact Digital Matter if you required information on the integration of the Guppy LoRaWAN data formats.

LoRaWAN Geo-Location

The Guppy is a small tag that is ideal for LoRaWAN geo-location. This feature of the LoRaWAN network allows the system to provide an approximate location of the device based on "triangulating" signals received by the gateways.

IP67 Weather-Resistant, Rugged Housing

The IP67 rated housing is made of sturdy ABS/Polycarbonate plastic to survive bumps and knocks and to survive many years in the sun, rain and weather.

Compact & Low-Profile

Compact and low-profile means easy mounting in the corrugation on containers or concealed on the underside of a trailer, in a toolbox, or anywhere! The housing screws together for easy assembly, and has 2 convenient mounting tabs.
