SensorData is a battery powered-data communicator that interfaces to a range of sensors, GPS, inputs and outputs, and uploads data via the Sigfox network. Great for agriculture and remote sensor monitoring applications.

  • Sigfox Device (RCZ1, RCZ2/RCZ4)

    The Sigfox network allows the SensorData Sigfox device to communicate over long range and have long battery life. Available in RCZ1 and combo RCZ2/4 versions.

    Note that for New Zealand the combo module is not certified and a RCZ4 only version needs to be orderd (MOQs apply).

    External Antenna

    The external ISM band antenna provides for maximum link budget with the flexibility to install a high-gain antenna if needed. Especially important for long range in rural applications.

    Low profile, compact, rugged IP67 rated housing.

    Made of sturdy ABS/Polycarbonate plastic the housing is extremely tough and UV resistant to survive bumps and knocks and many years in the sun and weather.

    The housing screws together for easy assembly, and caters for a number of cable glands to allow for waterproof cable entry to the housing. The standard external antenna SMA connector is IP65 rated but you can replace it with a IP67 version.

    In applications where the housing may be subjected to sudden temperature changes it is recommended that a GoreVent is fitted to assist with pressure equalisation (e.g. irrigation spraying).

    Operating Temperature

    The PCB is rated from -30°C to +65°C
    Be aware of the operating temperature range of the batteries used. For operation in extreme temperatures the device must be fitted with Lithium batteries

    Power (4-16V)

    The SensorData has a wide input voltage range to provide multiple power options including:
    • 4 x "C" cell Alkaline batteries
    • 4 x "C" cell Lithium Thionyl Chloride (LTC) batteries for extended life and temperature tolerance
    • USB 5V wall socket
    • Lead-acid battery
    The SensorData is ultra low power and can easily last a full season on a single set of Alkaline batteries.


    The optional GPS module allows the SensorData to periodically update its location and time. This is very handy to know the exact position of your sensors, and to obtain and accurate time update.

    3-D Accelerometer

    Used in combination with the GPS to provide low power tracking of the assset.


    This interface is commonly used in agricultural sensors and measurement devices such as:
    • Soil moisture probes
    • Temperature
    • Electrical conductivity (EC) of soils
    • Water levels/pressures

    I2C Interface

    I2C (inter-IC communications) is an interface commonly used in sensor modules. This allows the SensorData to talk to a wide range of sensors including temperature and humidity sensors, as well as numerous others.

    Switched Sensor Power (Vbatt)

    Used to control the battery power to external sensors and peripherals. Load limited (500mA) and short circuit protected.

    Digital Inputs

    3 x digital inputs, 2 with low-power pulse counting

    Analogue Inputs

    2 x Analogue inputs reading 0V to 30V with auto-ranging
    Built-in battery voltage monitoring

    3.3V Switched Power

    Used to control the 3.3V power to external sensors and peripherals. Load limited and short circuit protected.


    Device configuration can be done over-the-air (OTA) via downlink messages, or via USB cable for firmware updates and configuration.

  • The SDI-12 and I2C interfaces, along with the analogue and digital inputs allow a wide variety of sensors to be connected to the SensorData Sigfox.

    The Oyster Sigfox device manages the data plan that it is configured for to maximise the use of the allocated Sigfox data messages

    OTA Configuration

    The Oyster can be remotely configured and some of the key operational parameters updated via the Sigfox downlink messages (your data plan needs to support downlink messages).

    Data from the SensorData Sigfox device is sent via the Sigfox cloud infrastructure to the back-end server platform for processing and reporting.

    This can be Digital Matter’s Telematics.Guru platform which has built-in support for the SensorData device and protocols, or to your own server platform. Please contact Digital Matter if you require information on the integration of the SensorData Sigfox data formats.
