What is GPS pallet tracking and how does it work?

GPS pallet tracking involves attaching compact, battery-powered tracking devices or Bluetooth tags to reusable pallets. These devices monitor the pallet's real-time location, movement, and condition, transmitting data via Cellular, LoRaWAN, or Bluetooth networks. This helps logistics managers track inventory, prevent loss, and automate auditing processes.

What is the best way to track large volumes of pallets cost-effectively?

For high-volume pallet tracking, equipping every single pallet with a cellular GPS device is often too expensive. The most cost-effective method is using Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) tags, like DM Dot Tags. These low-cost tags are attached to the pallets and are scanned by a fixed or mobile Bluetooth Gateway (such as a device installed on a delivery truck) to update their location.

Can you track pallets indoors and outdoors?

Yes. Devices like the Oyster Edge feature Wi-Fi AP MAC Address Scanning alongside traditional GNSS. This allows the tracker to use GPS when the pallet is outdoors in transit, and seamlessly switch to Wi-Fi positioning to maintain accurate visibility when the pallet enters a warehouse or depot.

Returnable pallets frequently go missing in complex pooling systems. Trackers solve this by logging location history and allowing users to set geofences around warehouses or customer sites.
