The Guppy is a compact, rugged "tag" device that has been designed for locating containers, trailers, skip bins, and other assets using the LoRaWAN geo-location servces. The Guppy can also alert on movement and after-hours activity triggered by its accelerometer.

The IP-67 rated housing is rugged and UV stable, so the device can be mounted on assets that are exposed to rain, dust and marine conditions.

The Guppy uses LoRaWAN technology to give you coverage of your assets at a low data cost. It is available in 868MHz and 915MHz versions to cater for the various LoRaWAN regions around the world.

The Guppy firmware can be customized for special use cases in particular relating to the use of the 3D accelerometer:

  • monitor angles of poles
  • monitor sag in cables
  • monitor road signs to see if they are still upright or have been knocked over
  • trigger a security alert if the accelerometer detects any movement after hours
  • detect high-G events and report these

The option of using extended temperature range batteries allows the Guppy to be used in extreme climates and temperatures.
  • IP67 Rugged weather-proof housing
  • Fully powered by 2 x AAA consumer batteries
  • Up to 5 years location on LoRaWAN low cost network
  • Small, Compact and easy to install and conceal
  • Configure by USB cable and OTA downlink messages

  • Hardware Features

    Low-profile IP67 rugged housing

The IP67 rated housing is made of sturdy ABS/Polycarbonate plastic to survive bumps and knocks and to survive many years in the sun and weather.
It is low-profile making it easy to mount and conceal if required. For example, on the underside of a trailer.
The housing screws together for easy assembly, and has 2 convenient mounting tabs.

    Batteries

2 x standard “AAA” size batteries which provide a balance between size and capacity. Low-cost off-the-shelf alkaline batteries can be used or for applications that require extreme temperature or extra long-life we recommend that off-the-shelf 1.5V lithium batteries are used. These are readily available from retail outlets, for example Energizer Ulitmate Lithium.

    Operating Temperature

    -20°C to +60°C
For operation in extreme temperatures, the device must be fitted with lithium batteries.

    LoRaWan Communications

The Guppy uses a high power radio transmitter / receiver that operates on LoRaWAN networks, and is available in variants for the various LoRaWAN frequencies around the world.

    Internal Antenna

The Guppy has an internal LoRaWAN RF antenna tuned by the RF laboratories to ensure optimal performance

    3 axis accelerometer

The 3-axis accelerometer allows the Guppy to ‘sleep’ in an ultra-low power state yet still wakeup when movement occurs. The accelerometer can be used to detect movement and alert when this occurs outside of normal operating times (after hours movement alerts)
Future firmware versions will allow for harsh G-force detection (like objects being dropped)

    Configuration Cable

The Guppy caters for a USB configuration adapter and cable which is used to program firmware updates and configuration information on the device. The most common configuration parameters are also able to be updated OTA via LoRaWAN downlink messages.
