Frequently Asked Questions about Battery-Powered WiFi Beacons

How do I purchase the Wi-Fi Beacon?

Digital Matter has a global partner network. Please contact us, and we can connect you with an authorised partner in your region or discuss reseller opportunities.

How does a Wi-Fi Beacon improve asset tracking and location accuracy?

A Wi-Fi Beacon improves asset tracking by helping nearby tracking devices determine their location more accurately, especially in environments where GPS signals are weak or unavailable. It broadcasts a known identifier that devices can detect and use as a reference point to refine their position.

When used alongside compatible GPS tracking devices, the Wi-Fi Beacon enhances indoor and transitional coverage, such as warehouses, yards, and buildings with limited Wi-Fi infrastructure. This allows assets to be tracked more consistently as they move between indoor and outdoor environments, improving overall location accuracy without relying solely on satellite positioning.

What is the lead time and stock availability for the Wi-Fi Beacon?

Lead times and availability vary by region and order size. Please contact our team for current availability and delivery timelines for your deployment.

What battery life can I expect in real-world deployments?

The Wi-Fi Beacon is powered by two user-replaceable D-cell alkaline batteries and is designed for long-term, low-maintenance deployments. In typical configurations, it provides approximately 3 months of battery life at maximum broadcast power and transmission frequency, and up to approximately 2.5 years at lower transmission power and longer broadcast intervals.

Battery life will vary based on how frequently the beacon transmits, the configured signal strength, and environmental conditions. Lower broadcast rates and optimized settings can significantly extend operational life.

How much does the Wi-Fi Beacon cost? Do you offer volume or reseller pricing?

Pricing depends on order volume and commercial arrangements. Contact us for pricing tailored to your deployment requirements.

Can I test a sample unit before deploying at scale?

Yes. Sample units can be purchased in smaller quantities for proof-of-concept or pilot deployments. Contact us to discuss availability and your project requirements.

What warranty and support options are included with the Wi-Fi Beacon?

The Wi-Fi Beacon includes a standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty. Support includes access to firmware updates, documentation, and technical assistance. Exclusions apply.

Can I configure the Wi-Fi Beacon for high-frequency or near real-time tracking?

The Wi-Fi Beacon supports configurable broadcast intervals and transmission power, allowing you to adjust how frequently signals are emitted. Higher broadcast rates can improve responsiveness and location resolution, but will reduce battery life.

Because the beacon does not generate location data itself, its role is to support nearby tracking devices rather than provide real-time tracking independently. Configuration should be aligned with the needs of the overall system to balance accuracy and battery performance.

Does the Wi-Fi Beacon integrate with my existing platform or software?

Yes. The Wi-Fi Beacon integrates as part of a broader Digital Matter ecosystem, working alongside compatible tracking devices and Device Manager to enhance indoor positioning and data visibility.

Rather than sending data directly, the beacon supports location services used by tracking devices, which then forward information to cloud platforms and existing systems. This allows it to fit seamlessly into existing IoT deployments and asset tracking workflows.
